Overview

The Introduction to Creative Writing for Stage and Screen course will guide you in the basics of writing a script and will introduce you to the successful work of playwrights and screenwriters. Taught by knowledgeable writers and devised by the team behind the well-recognised MA Creative Writing, this course will provide you with the toolkit you need to craft a script for the stage or screen.

The short course will cover the essential aspects of writing a short script, such as: 

  • developing a dynamic and memorable character
  • managing stage directions and script layouts
  • structuring a convincing story and managing the plot
  • writing dialogue.

You will also learn practical insights on promoting your work to relevant individuals, such as tips for writing a film treatment or understanding how to successfully pitch your ideas to industry professionals. 

The Introduction to Creative Writing for Stage and Screen course is a great start if you wish to develop your storytelling skills for use on stage and screen. You will gain professional insights that will help you begin or refine your craft and develop your creative thinking.  

You will learn through a mix of in-class exercises, group feedback sessions and shared examples of successful stage and screenwriting.  

You will receive a Birkbeck certificate of participation upon completion of the course.  

This course is non-credit bearing, so carries no credit points.
